This month, Michael Usher (the main man himself), celebrates an impressive 35 years in the property industry. In October 1987, during the week of some of the worst storms on record, Michael was coincidentally gearing up to take Berkshire and Hampshire’s property industry by storm!
From that week in 1987 through to September 1991, Michael cut his teeth at an Estate Agency in Reading Town Centre. As a testament to his natural ability and hard-working attitude, after just four years in the estate agent business he was given the sole responsibility of setting up two new branches in Andover and Bracknell.
When chatting to Michael, it’s clear this was a big moment in his career – ‘I was proud of doing this job because I was building two new businesses from the ground up, and I was also responsible for setting up a Mortgage Broker business within each branch. This is where my passion for helping people with their own property journeys was really born… and I knew I was good at it!’
In 1993, in his quest to give the best possible advice to his clients, Michael successfully completed his Financial Planning Certificates (FPC) 1,2 and 3. He then decided to use his wealth of experience to start his own business, and Michael Usher Mortgage Services was born!
After launching the first branch in Camberley, it was time to relocate to a new office to accommodate the growing team. So, in 2001, Michael Usher Mortgage Services moved to Frimley High Street. Starting with a single office, we grew outwards and upwards and now work from multiple offices across two floors. And with the help of some very talented and loyal staff, we’ve become one of the South’s top Mortgage and Insurance firms!
In 2015, we opened our second office on Winchester Street, Basingstoke, and the team down there have made a name for themselves as one of the best mortgage brokers in Basingstoke. So if you’re in need of mortgage advice in Basingstoke please get in touch!
Michael is still at the helm of the business, and he’s always keen to catch up with old clients and help new customers whenever they need him. However, after 35 long years, he deserves to have a bit of a helping hand! So his son, Mitchell Atkins, is now Director of Sales as well as Operations Manager, and he looks after our busy team of 40 happy employees.
